The History of Shirdi Sai Baba Temple at Moosapet

Sai Baba Temple at Moosapet has been a divine source of strength and inspiration to lakhs of devotees who frequent this temple day after day or Thursday after Thursday. Moosapet lies in the neighbourhood of Kukatpally, a busy commercial centre which witnesses the hubbub of activity teeming with people running hither and thither on their routine business affairs. The locality Moosapet is nothing to boast of by itself. But it has one speciality; Shirdi Sai Baba Temple exists in a narrow by-lane off the main road leading to Kukatpally on the right and to Balanagar on the left. This Shirdi Sai Baba Temple located in the precincts of Moosapet is one of the oldest Shirdi Sai Baba Temples in twin cities. It has a history of 46 years behind its existence.

How this Shirdi Sai Baba Temple has come into being

The year was 1964. The twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad have not become a densely populated place. It was no concrete jungle then. People were a scattered lot living in clusters here and there and huddling together comforting each other. It was no different in Moosapet. It too has small clusters of people scattered around here and there. Nobody knew Moosapet then. It was an unknown area. Equally too, Sai Baba of Shirdi too was unknown to the people of twin cities. Leave alone twin cities, Sai Baba was not famous in the then State of Andhra Pradesh too.

But Sai Baba of Shirdi cast His gracious Eyes on Moosapet and its people. Thanks to Smt and Shri Kishan Singh family, the ardent devotees of Shirdi Sai Baba. The Kishan Singh family has decided to build a temple for their beloved God Shirdi Sai Baba. So they allocated a space in their own land for the temple.

They installed a framed picture of Sai Baba and began worshipping. It all happened in the year 1964. That's how Shirdi Sai Baba has descended upon Moosapet to preside over the destinies of the people of Moosapet. It continued in the same vein for twenty two years till 1986. The founder members together with some of the elders formed into a Society called Sai Charity Trust to run the administrative affairs of the temple including daily poojas and other rites in accordance with the rituals of Shirdi Sai Sansthan of Shirdi.

Installation of Shirdi Sai Baba's Marble Idol in 1986

In the year 1986, they installed a beautiful marble idol of medium size within the temple's sanctum sanctorum. As the temple began witnessing huge rush of devotees everyday; as the visit of the devotees to this Holy Shrine in Moosapet began multiplying multi-fold, the Trust members under the stewardship of Shri T Yogendar Singh, the grandson of the founder-members, has decided to renovate the temple to accommodate larger number of devotees. Accordingly, the foundation stone for renovating the temple was laid on Wednesday, the 24th January of 2007. With the mighty blessings of Shirdi Sai Baba, the temple renovation works went unhindered. The final outcome of temple renovation has been a marvel. It has magnificent looks with sublime beauty glowing within the temple premises and the fragrance of pure grace and joy all across the temple permeating the every inch of its premises.

Soon after the renovation; for five continuous days, from Sunday, the 30th March of 2008 onwards to the Thursday, the 3rd April, the holy ceremony of installation of Shirdi Sai Baba's new statue in white marble was performed with much religious fervour and gaiety that befits such occasion. The installation Mahotsav has become a memorable event with thousands of devotees participating in this holy Mahotsav and going home with full of joys and blessings from Shirdi Sai Baba.

And today, the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple stands majestically in the precincts of Moosapet; with Sai Baba Himself presiding over the destinies of His devotees who frequent this temple. Hundreds and thousands of devotees who frequent this Holy Temple today stand testimony to Shirdi Sai Baba's mighty graciousness and blessings.
